abbreviations and acronyms
abbreviations : 단어의 단축형; 라틴어에 어원을 둔 단축형 단어. 많이 쓰이면서도 뜻은 모르는 단어가 꽤 있는 것 같다.
e.g. (exempli gratia) = for example
i.e. (id est) = that is
NB (nota bene) = note well
AD (Anno Domini) = the year of Our Lord
AIDS, NATO 등 머리글자를 따서 만든 약어는 acronym이라 한다.
